Waiting at Bikaner House, Delhi

While reading up on this building, which has had a storied past, I was happy to find out that the recent restoration taken up by the Rajasthan government. Much of the damage caused by the neglect and abuse it suffered due to the bus boarding activity has been addressed. The house has been restored to the glory it enjoyed as the residence of the maharajah of Bikaner. Now, a hep cultural center, its Facebook page boasts of the high-society events. Ghalib Ki Haveli – Lost in the Bylanes of Purani Dilli

Mirza Ghalib’s haveli is located in Gali Qasim Jan of Ballimaran. It was given the status of a heritage site, after a 1997 high court judgement, by the Archaeological Survey of India. Of Minarets, Dreams, and Memories

Perched on a latticed window of a century old haveli, the pigeons fluttered about as irreverently as the milling crowd. Steeped in history, stumbling through the 21st century, the city of brick-red buildings and stone-walled minarets stands aloof. Like a proud lioness, now grown old she jealously guards her secrets.
